Psych-vocational assessments.

Assessment enquiries at the intersection of psychological functioning and vocational questions.

Connect the clinical and work-related questions

A psych-vocational enquiry concerns psychological functioning in relation to work or vocational questions. The referral purpose helps establish what is being asked: for example, whether information is needed about functioning in a work context rather than a general request for career advice.

Contact Ramsay & Associates in Hamilton about a psych-vocational assessment. Discuss the proposed referral, the question it should address and whether the practice can arrange the appropriate appointment.

Useful context for a referral

  • The vocational or work-related question to be considered
  • Relevant job demands, education or work history, if requested
  • The intended recipient and purpose of any report

Appointments are arranged through the practice. Call 289-396-9206 to discuss your enquiry.

Define the work context

Two referrals with similar labels may ask different questions. Be clear about whether the enquiry relates to a current role, an insurance process, a legal matter or another vocational context. If there are written referral instructions, ask how the office would like to receive them.

A job title alone may not explain the relevant demands. Ask whether a job description or other vocational information is required for the proposed assessment. Do not send employment or health records until the practice has explained the appropriate document-sharing arrangements.

Clarify the scope and intended outcome

An assessment enquiry should establish the clinician’s role and how the findings will be used. It is not a booking for job placement, a promise of employment or a guarantee of a particular insurance or legal decision. Discuss the scope, fees, consent and report arrangements before confirming an appointment.

Psych-vocational questions may overlap with LTD or medical-legal referrals, but the purpose should remain explicit. Identifying the referring party and intended use helps the practice determine which service enquiry best fits the request.
