Long-term disability assessments.
Assessment enquiries concerning psychological functioning in the context of a long-term disability referral.
Understanding the work-related question
Long-term disability enquiries often involve questions about psychological symptoms, everyday functioning and the demands of work. A clear referral helps distinguish the information being requested from a general request for counselling or treatment.
Contact Ramsay & Associates about a long-term disability, or LTD, assessment. Discuss the referral purpose and whether an appointment can be arranged for your circumstances.
Before you enquire
- Identify the insurer, representative or other referring party
- Describe the assessment question in general terms
- Ask about authorization, fees and reporting arrangements
Appointments are arranged through the practice. Call 289-396-9206 to discuss your enquiry.
Keep the referral specific
The terms of a disability policy and the questions an insurer asks are not interchangeable. If you have received a request for an assessment, tell the practice who requested it and whether there are written instructions or a deadline. The office can explain the appropriate way to provide those materials.
Work-related referral information may include the nature of a person’s role and the demands relevant to the assessment question. Ask which records or job information are needed rather than sending an entire file with your initial enquiry.
Separate clinical information from benefit decisions
A psychological assessment can be requested as one source of information within a wider disability process. It does not, by itself, establish insurance eligibility or determine a claim outcome. Confirm policy and payment questions with the insurer or responsible referring organization.
If the main question concerns the relationship between psychological functioning and vocational demands, a psych-vocational enquiry may be relevant. If the purpose is legal reporting, identify that context when contacting the practice so the proposed role is clear from the outset.
